HAIR CARE FOR TYPE 4C CHILDREN'S HAIR

Caring for your child’s hair shouldn’t be a tedious process for you or your little one.
Once you have the right products, techniques, and regimen, it’s a walk in the park.
Based on your child’s hair type, their regimen will be tailored towards it.

With 4c hair, the hair is drier than the other hair types however you can take steps to comb that.

Here are 8 ways to care for type 4c children’s hair

1. CLEANSE WEEKLY OR BI-WEEKLY

Children are very active which will cause their scalp to hold onto sweat, dirt, and debris. You want to ensure that their scalp is cleansed on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. We don’t recommend going for one month without washing their hair unless you know your child hasn’t been very active. You should be cleansing with a sulfate free shampoo only. Why? Shampoos with sulfate are withdrawing the natural oils and sebum needed to coat their new growth. Our August Day Hair Cleansing Shampoo is a plant-based, creamy shampoo that will gently cleanse their scalp and hair. In addition, it deeply nourishes and repairs the hair by providing essential nutrients to boost hair strength and shine. The shampoo should only be applied to the scalp using the pads on your fingers. Then, rinsed from the scalp towards the ends and let the shampoo run along the remainder of the hair shaft to cleanse it.

2. DEEP CONDITION OFTEN

After cleansing their scalp, deep condition the hair. 4c hair is drier than the other hair types so it’s best to deep condition their hair regularly. Their hair goes through a lot, especially with their active young lives. Therefore, they need treatment ever so often on their tresses. This treatment is usually a deep conditioner that aids in revitalising every hair strand. The August Day hair deep conditioner is our plant-based conditioner. It will deeply nourish their hair to detangle, soften, repair, strengthen and even tame the frizz of their hair.

3. DETANGLE ON WET HAIR

Before you rinse out the deep conditioner, detangle it. Detangling their hair can be a lot of work so it’s best to detangle when it is wet and has conditioner in it. The hair is softer so it’s easier for the detangling tool to glide through the clumps of strands. Examples of tools you can use are a wide-tooth comb, Denman brush or the pads of your finger. It’s best to use your fingers as you’re able to feel the knots and can gently remove them. Also, putting their hair into smaller sections whether 4 or 6 will make detangling a breeze.

4. OIL THEIR SCALP -

Next is to oil their scalp often. You don’t have to do it every day as their hair will grow faster which will make you have to restyle often. So, you want to do it often whether it is every 3 days, every week, on wash days, etc. Oiling their scalp often aids in encouraging the healthy function of the scalp. Therefore, it aids in reducing the possibility of dry scalp, itch scalp as well as other scalp issues. The oil that you should be using is our August Day Hair Moisturising Hair Oil. It is made with Vitamin E and Tea Tree Leaf Oil. Both oils have rich anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties which will encourage a healthy scalp for your hair to grow thicker and faster.

5.  USE ORGANIC PRODUCTS

Do not use products made with chemical ingredients that you are not aware of the name or its use. The long-term effects of the chemicals can be damaging to their hairline and scalp. As well as some of these ingredients may be cancerous or harmful to the body. Therefore, use products made with high-quality organic ingredients. They will nourish your little one’s hair from the inside out. It will moisturise, strengthen, grow, and thicken their hair. Use products made with ingredients such as butter, oils, water, and aloe vera. At August Day, our products are made with organic ingredients that we know your little one’s hair will thrive on.

6. LET THEM SLEEP WITH SATIN:

Satin is a great material that keeps the moisture locked into them. Moisture is very important in maintaining the health of their curls. If they sleep wild, then a satin scarf, bonnet or sheets is suitable as opposed to cotton. cotton pillowcases and sheets can remove the moisture which we don’t want. Once it’s gone their hair is susceptible to breakage from playing, running their hands through their hair, etc. We understand that some may not want to wear a tight bonnet so you can wear a satin lined durag. As well as you can just let them sleep on the satin sheets so their hair will be rubbings against the sheets.

7. DO PROTECTIVE STYLES:

Children are very active, so you want to style their hair to keep it protected. They may have a very fun day at school running and playing and they come back with their hair in a poof ball. This isn’t going to work as their hair is prone to breakage, split ends, knots and so much more. So, to avoid all of that, protective styles on their hair. You can do simple protective styles such as buns. Or styles that can last 2 weeks such as mini twist, braids, or cornrows. All of these styles keep their hair protected from being any form of damage.

8. LET THEM KNOW THEIR HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL

Last but most importantly is to let them know how beautiful their hair is. You can do this by letting them know that they look good today or how gorgeous their hair is. While you’re caring for it on the daily, weekly, or monthly, you can talk them through what you’re doing to their hair and the importance of it all. Once you involve them in the process, they will start to love their hair even more. As well as feel confident wearing their curls.
We know this is a comprehensive list, so let us know which hair care tip resonated with you the most. As well as, which one you will be implementing in our little’s one’s hair routine.
